I've had my graphite Kindle since early December, and there is minor (but noticeable) wear on the right side of the Del key and also on the 5-way controller. I use the 5-way a lot when I play games, and I also use those buttons when testing my .mobi files to make sure that chapter-skipping works properly, so I probably use the 5-way more than many people.
The wear that's occurred so far doesn't bother me. I haven't been using the keyboard very often (except when entering numbers for Sukoku, etc.), but now that I'm using the Notepad and Calendar Pro apps I am using the keyboard more, so I may start to see wear there. If the letter keys do wear off, then that may be irritating. |

I've noticed some fading of the paint on the most used keys of my Kindle3 Graphite. Do you think the paint is toxic? Anyway, I was hoping to have the logo at the top fade away but that's probably not going to happen anytime soon, I've been scratching it with a pin though lately.

My graphite Kindle was in the first batch shipped and I notice some very slight wear on the arrows of the 5-way. Other than that, it looks the same as the day I got it. I read on it every day for a while.

I have a couple of letters partly rubbed off. I hardly ever use the keyboard so I don't even know how that happened.

My Dad got his graphite K3 at Xmas and some of the buttons have had worn paint for at least a month already. It's mainly on the Home, Menu, Back, and direction pad arrows, all on the right side of the button area. He uses it a lot though.

Then let me add to my above post - the arrows on my 5 way controller are completely worn off. |

the point i was making was related to this. when i got my kindle 3 graphite it was 7 months after the initial shipment of them. i'd since read that the letters & numbers being quickly rubbed off of the keys & buttons was a problem with only the initial production run of the graphite model. anyway, to be extra careful i trained my self to press the buttons with as minimal contact and abrasive motion as i could. hence the pressing of the buttons with a fingernail that neither slips at all and the contact point is very small. also when possible i avoid any direct contact with the printed characters (which is really easy with the larger keys/buttons). now it's second nature. -- Alan ![]() |
