funny all these arguments against a new computer interface paradigm, they are all just like the naysayers when the gui and a mouse were introduced. The command line zealots had them all buy buried before they every got started, now look where we are?
Just because it wan't in an SF movie or book from the '50s does not mean it's a bad thing. In fact I say because the industry has become so stock price driven we have seen very slow to poor evolution in the industry. Good ideas are now warehoused by the truckload in exchange for money or fear of the inventor thanks to being scared of a lawsuit from a company like Apple or MS or pick your world economic power that has a very vested interest in preserving the status quo in order to reap more profits from old and outdated conventions. These devices are coming and will bring some very welcome changes to how we view and use computers. Using computers is not all about sitting at a screen with a keyboard and mouse surfing for 23hrs/day. |

if the future of computing involves uploading photos to my refrigerator or designing virtual snowboards for some bizarre unknown reason, then just shoot me now please.

![]() But you know all these companies have been hot and bothered to network every single thing in our lives. I am only semi-joking here but the marketing wonks want to know when we flush, open the 'fridge and track via RFID how and when we use the stuff we buy. Thanks goodness I will be dead before these things happen but it's the way the world is moving right now. ![]() I find it all very interesting rather than depressing or for the soul crushing, freedom destroying take over of the daily lives of people everywhere. What is interesting to me is the whole Idiocracy (funny movie when in the proper frame of mind) movement that society has taken in order to enable this. Oh heck I went and meandered OT yet again. But darn, when you look at some of the recent candidates for US President as well as the previous winner, and heck toss in the current "winner" I suppose we get what we pay for, right? ![]() |

Yeah, kitty would get a hotfoot if it were that simple to turn on. I imagine they might have it programmable so you could determine how you wanted it to be accessed though. I mean they already have the ability to lock some content out of the reach of kids watching TV so why not a safety lock for young kids and pets on things like a stove?
