Anyway to get "Special Offers" on a regular Kindle? - Page 2

I wouldn't mind having the special offers in exchange for a discounted kindle, but I need the 3G model, so the current SO is not an option for me.

But consider this; the discount comes by way of exclusive offers. There's your discount.

The price I paid for my $114 KSO is now down to $94 because of two offers I took advantage of.

The best way for Amazon to allow for the offers and opting in/out is to tie it to the Amazon Prime program. They could make the ads a toggle on the non/SO Kindle, but once you pay it is non-refundable. Perhaps the home-screen ads would not toggle, but the screen-saver ones could.

I'm sure they could figure something out.

That's what I was thinking. It's not possible to satisfy both groups completely once they start trying. The closest to "even" would probably be to offer regular Kindle users a gift card equal to the price difference between KSO & Wifi if they opt to turn on special offers.

I would imagine that either the 3G wouldn't be eligible or the updates would only deliver over wifi.

All the people that have free prime are excluded from the instant videos. Essentially, you now pay for instant videos and get free prime (since anyone can sign up with Amazon Mom and most can find some way to stay qualified, if they have any showers or gifts to give now and then).

If you live near me, I'll trade ya! 3.2 firmware is out on amazon right now, it is not compiled, if you can get someone to compile it for you, you may be able to have the ads. 3.2 is the version that comes with the Special Offers. Also, log into your amazon account on your pc browser, and go to Your Account, Manage Your Kindle.

On my screen, I have a Special Offers tab that says Enabled Yes. I can't turn it off, but maybe you can turn it on? May have to wait for the official 3.2 for the other kindles to use that.

Even if you managed to get ads onto a regular Kindle, the offers all say you must have a KSO registered to the account to take advantage of them.

I'd sell the other Kindle off and get the KSO (or, give it to another family member), if they are really wanted and you can't return the non-KSO for a refund.

Great news... we can now opt-in! Go to 'Manage Your Kindle', select 'Manage your Devices', then click edit next to Unsubscribed.

For those of us with a non-special offers we can opt-in and opt-out whenever you feel like it! And if your jailbroke with a custom screensaver, when you opt-out it will go back to your custom screensaver.
