If I go to my Windows Explorer and "unmount" the drive I can use the Nook while connected to the computer. So it should work if you don't have the Nook (or SD card) showing up like drives in your system.

Not me. Usually when you tell windows to disconnect the drive, even if you leave it plugged in, you should then be able to use it just as if you had it plugged into a charger.

I find cases to be bulky and awkward. The only time I feel one is needed is when I am traveling to protect the screens from scratches. Mine has survived naked for a year around the house with two kids just fine.
I really don't think a case is going to offer a whole lot more protection than a good laptop bag will. Just keep the screens facing in to protect them from impacts, and keep other items that could scratch them out of there. Of course, that's just my opinion. Some people like to put cases on every electronics item they buy, I almost never do. |

You must eject, not just "safely remove" the Nook. With the Nook plugged into the USB cable, you'll see an icon in the system tray (lower right corner of the screen) that lets you "safely remove" the device. Don't use that. Instead, open "My Computer" or "Computer", depending on your Windows version. There, you'll see a list of drives--your hard disk will be C:, probably a CD or DVD drive, and so forth. One of those will be for the Nook. Right-click on that and select "Eject" from the context menu. Now you'll be able to use the Nook while it's still plugged in. |

Thanks! That did the trick, ejecting from my system tray does not work, but ejecting from My Computer does, go figure!
Very happy with this, I'd still love to root it b/c I'm a tinkerer, but I'm just too happy and busy reading right now to bother with it lol |
