The premise of the Wiz series sounds interesting to me, and the first book of the Honor Harrington series kinda annoyed me with the infodumps, sooo...

Yeah, On Basilisk Station does have a lot of techno-babble, but I found that 1) I began to ignore/gloss over most of it (like background noise) and 2) the other books weren't quite as bad.

Neither. If you've read the first six Honor Harrington books you've gotten the good out of the series. I didn't see much of note in the first book of the Wiz series. YMMV.

Alternate suggestion: Williamson, Michael Z., "Freehold". If you like it go on to "The Weapon".

Decission Made.
Although, (at the time of this post) the poll isn't officially closed, I went ahead with the general consensus and read Wizard's Bane. It was a fun, light read as promised; and I will be reading the second book, The Wizardry Compiled, soon.

First, however, will come Wells' War of the Worlds.
