Signing up for an account now. They don't have Sony LRF as either a "Favorite eBook Format" question or "Alternate favorite eBook format" in the signup questionaire though

I will send them a note though, it's important they know we're here

The note's a good idea. I suspect it's just because it's new for them that they haven't gotten it stuffed into all the forms across the site.

In the long run, I think the best way to get noticed is to download everything in that format--including, if you read them, Asimov's, F&SF, Analog, and, I just discovered, Aeon.

And here's some official confirmation from the Fictionwise yahoo group:

Quote:
Hello all,

Yes it's true ... Fictionwise is in the process of adding Sony Reader (.LRF) as the eleventh
MultiFormat download option.

These native files use the entire feature set of the Sony Reader PRS-500, including cover images,
inline images, thumbnail images, metadata in the 'Info' section, linked table of contents (if
supplied with the original), and ... (drum roll) ... you can change the font size.

If you have a Sony Reader and you're interested in seeing the full capability of our new .lrf
files, I recommend any of the four Dell magazines (Analog, Asimov's, Alfred Hitchcock, and Ellery
Queen) and The Magazine of Fantasy and Science Fiction.

We're just shy of halfway through creating .lrf files for our 16,000 or so MultiFormat titles, and
hope to be finished soon. If the Sony Reader file is available for a MutiFormat eBook, (Sony
Reader .LRF) will show up in the format selector dropdown menu in your bookshelf.

Cheers!

Director of Publishing
Fictionwise, Inc.

Can somebody email an LRF file to me so I can check if html2lrf was indeed used. I promise not to read it.

First run lrf-meta on it. If libprs500 is anywhere in the metadata (usually the Producer field), then that's an obvious giveaway. Since libprs500 is opensource that can easily have been changed, so if it isn't then the only way is to examine the actual structure of the file. That I think, I'm the only one capable of doing.

This is exciting news and may be the thing to push me over into getting a Sony.

They have a ways to go, however. I have 281 books in my Fictionwise bookshelf and very few of them are available yet in the Sony format. All my newer magazines are, but going backwards in my bookshelf fewer and fewer magazines and books are available in this format. I'm sure they will get around to them, but I'll wait a month or so and see what happens.

I think I will vote DRM-free over LRF. Anybody know how to tell if a LRF has DRM?
