A dictionary is that huge, for example.

When I added dictionary support to mobiunpack.py, I had also to add several performance tweaks to reduce extraction times to about a minute instead over an hour for a big dictionary.

I assume that calibre is doing everything in memory, which works fine for normal sized ebooks, but will either swap to death of fail completely for such huge files.
