It's not only Kindles, but also MP3's. I wanted to buy a music album (in MP3 form) from Amazon. Wasn't allowed in .com, in .co.uk, in .fr, in .de...

So much for a world economy or even an European economy... And hurray for piracy as that at least is global...

I guess she could order a kindle from amazon.com and then transfer her kindle account to amazon.de. But don't hold me to it!

The swiss "Tagesanzeiger" mentioned that the offer is valid for swiss customers: http://www.tagesanzeiger.ch/digital/...story/31056170 (Google translation)

Auch Kindle-Besitzer in der Schweiz können das Angebot nutzen, wie Amazon auf Anfrage von Tagesanzeiger.ch/Newsnetz bestätigt.

Say, speaking of geographical restrictions...

Has anyone figured out with the new Kindle store in Germany if you will be allowed to purchase from both the Kindle.de site and the US (*.com) site - or if, like with the UK store, you have to choose one or the other?

I notice that I'm not blocked out of the Kindle book information on the German site, though I live in France. I am blocked out of the Kindle information on the UK site (because they only sell to UK and Irish residents). If I were to buy a few titles from the German site, would that lock me out of the US site? (Just curious...)

This is so odd! The European Commission is complaining about everything and the world, and they even noticed that trans-border consumerism is barely existent (as compared to in-country online shopping), but the one thing they just don't take tackle is --- companies blocking or inhibiting European customers from buying in other EU member states (where there is no actual reason).

Did you ever notice how Amazon UK is shipping for free to the Netherlands, Luxemburg and Poland, but not to Germany or France?

It's odder than that, even. A German friend of mine said that Amazon.co.uk would not ship books to her here in France, allegedly because she was buying them with her German credit card?? She had to have the books shipped to a friend in Germany, where she'd pick them up on her next visit.

I've bought and received books and merchandise from Amazon.de here in France (paying with my French credit card), but I also have my UK card registered for making purchases from .co.uk and I use my US credit card when buying from .com. Never had them refuse to ship me books from any of their sites.
