How is the NC for music?

Well, this thread reassures me that my new Nook Color may NOT be defective. I haven't tried loading any music yet, but when I adjust the volume slider I have to push it up to about halfway before the tone is even audible, and at full volume I can't hear it unless the room is fairly quiet. It's somewhat better with headphones. Does this correspond to other people's experience? Can anything be done about it after rooting or dual-booting (I'm thinking DSPManager here, but don't want to blow the speaker)?

DSP Manager helps some, and dalingren, who does a lot of the kernel tweaking for CM7, has made an app that he says should help with a lot of the audio issues: http://forum.xda-developers.com/show....php?t=1104039

I haven't been motivated to mess with it much since the day I was running tests.

Cool, I will probably want to play with that as soon as I get the dual boot thing going. Can you tell me if the low volume I'm experiencing (needing to turn it up halfway before hearing the tone at a typical working distance) is about normal for a Nookcolor? My hearing is normal for late middle age...I think...

That's about what I'm getting, even with all levels at +5 in DSP.

It's hard to compare sensory info, over the internet or otherwise, between the people who are totally out of touch with their senses and the "Princess and the Pea" level aficionados. Seems like it always turns into three blind men describing an elephant.

Yeah, I know what you mean. I'm just trying to figure out whether I should ask for an exchange, but it really sounds from this as though my Nook is typical. Thanks very much for the help.

I really don't plan to use the sound much, just didn't want to get saddled with a defective one.
