The vast majority of Linux issues are really Ubuntu issues. The binary installer is known to work on with other distros.

You have not provided the info Kovid asked and you have ignored the sugestion of using the Ubuntu provided package.

There is something wrong with your Ubuntu installation or more likely an issue with Ubuntu itself. You can either stop using Ubuntu or ask them about this issue.

There is nothing wrong with my installation. This is an almost new installation with no special setup nor other fancy installations.

Don't tell me that *I am the idiot*.

I have been working as release manager for Python based software for seven years and we did a *much* much better job in maintaining our distributions and testing on various platforms. You are doing a *lousy* job and your support is more than poor....not to mention the arrogant and ignorant attitude of the your maintainer.

I am using calibre 0.7.52 on Ubuntu 10.04 LTS x64 with no issues. I used the binary install method, as the version available through the Synaptic packet Manager (0.6.42) is quite old. The installation path is /opt/calibre.

Then you should have no problem fixing your issue. Then again you did run ldd on a Python app...

Why would we test on a distribution we don't support? Hence the suggestions of: don't use Ubuntu, or use their official package that they have produced and support.
