I have the wifi only and rarely turn that on.

The one thing that I could use 3g for would be emergency use during power outages since I don't have any other 3 g device.

Also if I traveled constantly for work I would probably get one one as a back up way to connect to the internet.

I would not even consider the ad-supported Kindle. I'd skip lunch for few days to save the 25 dollars if I had to.
