That's next on my list. I've burned through all the John Dickson Carr & Elizabeth Ferrars, and most of the Anthony Berkeley.
Great fun!

Wow you're way ahead of me.

Kind of OT, but this guy is really cracking me up. I thought the narrator (the nephew) was a nut, but the aunt is just as bad. I can't imagine what direction this thing is going to take.

I was reading about Hull at the Langtail Press website and this pretty much says it all:

Quote:
A bold experimenter, Hull often used the first person and peopled his books with unpleasant characters. Although dealing with murder, his novels are generally not of the ordinary detective nature; Hull instead specialized in unusual approaches to narrative. An intriguing and innovative crime novelist...
(My bolding)

And this was only his first book.

Lord Wellacombe, Secretary of State for India, dies whilst giving a speech to introduce a new bill on the floor of the House of Commons. His untimely demise looks like a stroke, but is it mere coincidence that a threat on his life had been made? The bill needs to be passed, but is anyone brave enough to defy the threats and risk potential murder?

When Roger explores the basement on return from their honeymoon, he discovers something odd with the flooring. Hoping to find buried treasure, he digs up the body of a woman instead. The Poisoned Chocolates Case $6.39

Quote:
Product Description
ROGER SHERINGHAM'S MOST FAMOUS CASE. In 1920s London, six members of the Crime Circle set out to solve a murder that has baffled Scotland Yard. Equipped with all of the facts, as told to them by Chief Inspector Moresby, club president Roger Sheringham and his armchair detectives pool their collective talents to formulate theories about the death of Mrs. Joan Bendix by nitrobenzene poisoning. Over six successive nights, each member puts forward a plausible theory, but will any of them be able to reveal the truth?

John Dickson Carr

He Who Whispers $6.39

Quote:
Product Description
A DR GIDEON FELL MYSTERY. Outside the little French city of Chartres, industrialist Howard Brookes is found dying on the parapet of an old stone tower. Evidence shows that it was impossible for anyone to have entered at the time of the murder, however someone must have, for the victim was discovered stabbed in the back. Who could have done it? And where did they go? When no one is convicted, the mystery remains unsolved for years until a series of coincidences brings things to a head in post-war England, where amateur sleuth Dr. Gideon Fell is on the scene to work out what really happened.

She Died a Lady $6.39

Quote:
Product Description
A SIR HENRY MERRIVALE MYSTERY. A suicide pact was just the sort of notion that would appeal to Rita Wainwright. Her notorious love affair with the young American actor, Barry Sullivan, was flamboyant enough to warrant a dramatic ending, so when the two of them vanished over a cliff one rainy night, leaving only a farewell note for Rita’s husband and a pair of footprints to the edge, no one doubted that it was suicide. No one, that is, but Doctor Luke, Rita’s old family doctor and one of the few people in the seaside village of Lyncombe who genuinely liked her. When amateur detective Sir Henry Merrivale, who is in the district having his portrait done by a local artist, agrees to investigate, the questions start piling up. But what of it? Are the doctor’s doubts without merit, or was there a more sinister plot at play? It takes the blustering, rampaging H.M. to solve this baffling mystery.
And So to Murder $6.39

Quote:
Product Description
A SIR HENRY MERRIVALE MYSTERY. No one expected a clergyman’s daughter from East Roystead to author a scandalous bestseller, but when Monica Stanton published Desire she quickly got hired at Albion Films. Expecting to adapt her own work, she is instead assigned to help scriptwriter William Cartwright adapt his latest detective novel. Almost immediately, a series of mysterious attempts on her life begin, and the flamboyant Sir Henry Merrivale is called in to investigate. But can he see through the intrigue to seek out the perpetrator before it’s too late?
The Problem of the Green Capsule $6.39

Quote:
Product Description
A DR GIDEON FELL MYSTERY. In the quaint English village of Sodbury Cross, pretty Marjorie Wills is suspected of poisoning chocolates in the local confectionary shop. Her uncle, the wealthy Marcus Chesney, believes eyewitnesses are unreliable. To prove his point, he sets up a clever test in front of three witnesses and a camera. They are asked to watch a staged series of events, during which a masked man enters the room to ‘poison’ Chesney by feeding him a large green capsule. As expected, the experiment concludes and no one can agree on what took place, except that Marcus Chesney is dead… How is that possible? And who is the culprit? It takes Dr. Gideon Fell to unravel this Golden Age classic.
http://www.amazon.com/Problem-Green-...6876819&sr=1-8

The Burning Court $6.39

Quote:
Product Description
A classic tale combining hints of the supernatural and an ‘impossible’ murder. The death of Miles Despard looks simple enough. But then how does the housekeeper see a woman walk through a wall? And how could someone walk through a door that had been bricked up two hundred years ago? To all intents and purposes, it looks as if someone has come from the past to commit the murder, but could that really be the case? Surely not…

Elizabeth Ferrars

I, Said The Fly $3.99

Quote:
Product Description
One day in the spring of 1941, Kay Bryant walked along a bombed London street in which she had rented a room before the war. She had come to see what the blitz had done to Little Carberry Street, and now that No. 10 had vanished completely, there was a chance she might be able to forget some of the horror associated with the house, and at last blot out its grim memories of murder. It all began when a gun was found hidden under the floorboards – a gun which had been used in the murder of the room’s previous occupant. The police were convinced that the murderer would be found among the inhabitants of No. 10, yet to Kay this seemed impossible, for all of them were her friends. At the time, each of them appeared to think it was someone else, and there was a case for any of them to have done it. But one of them knew too much, and a further death took place. In present day, reunited with Inspector Cory among the ruins, Kay vividly relived those days of suspicion. For she knew one thing the other tenants didn’t. Did Inspector Cory know it too?

WOW! Thanks for taking the trouble to post such a complete list.

My experience is the titles are very well proof-read and formatted and, at the lower prices, great value. Elizabeth Ferrars is a wonderful discovery for me and I will be buying more of hers.

Well, it was the craziest thing. I must have happened on them while they were in the middle of changing their prices. Every time I went back to recheck there were more that had been lowered, so I kept editing and re-editing this post. There are only about 5 left that are $8.00.

The books all seem to be pretty short, so I really think these newer prices are more fair. (Some of them are under 200 pages.)

I can't wait to get going on Ferrars, because I think I am going to really like her, too!

Yes - although the characters sometimes refer to earlier cases, they can be read in any order.

Woo-hoo! What fun! I bought a bunch more.

I'm glad to see some old classics come available at reasonable enough prices that I can talk myself into replacing my DTB's. And now I have an excuse to re-read some of them too.

I hope these are working out financially for Langtail at the newer prices, because I'd sure like to see more of them!

Me, too! I doubt if they were selling well at $8.00, so $3.99 has to be better than zero. I doubt if they are getting much publicity, either, other than here. lol

You're welcome, SP. I think I am going to start with I, Said the Fly.

I bought the $3.99 I, Said the Fly yesterday, too. So today it is: #35,504 Paid in Kindle Store.

Contrast to Ferrar's $6.39 Give a Corpse a Bad Name ... #179,586 Paid in Kindle Store.

or even I, Said the Fly in paper at $14.95 ... #3,254,128 in Books.

So, there's an exercise in price elasticity!

Now if only more publishers could figure that out! It's not really THAT hard...
