I would have caught the delete all part . But still not that funny of a joke. I managed to get a computer that still had MS-DOS at the community share shed for ten bucks. I like vista better than 98 . I was looking around the computer I'm on right now (Vista) and it seems like powershell is the same or similar as MS-DOS?

A person "who doesn't keep constant backups of everything" describes about 99% of people who use computers. As far as "some random person on the Internet" goes: Welcome to the Internet. It's actually chock full of forums where people suggest commands to run to solve various problems/see various things. Stop by a Linux forum sometime. If someone asks how to get a file list in their root directory, and you respond with

Code:
rm -rf *
then their ignorance is excusable, but your malice is not.

Well-- it answers your question "what's the worst that can happen." You can delete everything on your drive with 14 keystrokes.

The command line under Windows 7 is similar to DOS, but I don't think it's the same. The Windows 7 command line reports itself as "Windows 6.1.76". I'm not sure if it'll run DOS applications or not.

This also seems appropriate, maybe
  • Vulpes pilum mutat, non mores!
    • Translation: "A fox may change its skin but never its character" - Suetonius
An other thing comes to my mind. PC stands for personal computer, not a mainframe that you might have access to. But personal could refer to person and not to wild beast.

Jerk is even more appropriate

Noun. An idiot or stupid person. An insensitive, selfish, ignorant, cocky person who is inconsiderate and does stupid things.

You should play Eve Online, if you don't already.
Do whatever you want and then blame your victim for being there, thus allowing you to destroy his possessions just for the fun of it.

If you don't know what one command does, you can get help by hitting Ctrl+W keys.

The above and my ignorance poses the question: why would you suggests a thing like that on a forum where a lot of people visit?
I mean: a practical joke is a joke for one person or several persons you know. Do you personally know the OP?
But to lash out at complete strangers; that is totally beyond my comprehension.
