(Since Amazon does not have any Swedish Kindle books the Kindle is not marketed here at all.)

It mean that 3G will work in Egypt...isn't that?

Swedish 25% VAT is high but the difference will be only a few euros because all EU countries charge VAT. If you get the item shipped directly from the US you might have to pay import tax. I don't know about Egypt but in poor countries it can be very high.

Usually the cheapest option is to buy while on a foreign trip and then bring the item back to your country in your hand luggage because your personal electronics are usually exempt from customs duty. It is the same category as your personal camera, cellphone or laptop computer that you take with you on all trips. In this case it has to be unpacked though because gifts are still considered taxable imports.

If you buy Kindle in the UK you can also get VAT refunded at the airport upon return. You will need to show receipts and proof of your non-EU residency.

Well if you buy it from UK it costs you £1478.36 (Egyptian pounds) and from the US £1124.94 (Egyptian pounds). But the trip to US will be alot more expensive than to UK.

The device is the same..

According to the GSM/3G coverage map most populated areas in egypt are covered for GPRS. Good luck!

I'm in Sweden and I just ordered a WiFi Kindle this weekend.
The total amount comes to $199.98, or £1193 Egyptian pounds. This is inclusive of all shipping, VAT and customs fees.

The problem is that Amazon has different policies for different items. You can buy some items from US Amazon, while some can't be bought outside US. Same goes for Amazon's European stores due to differences in laws (mostly it's because of licences, although it is not as noticeable as while shopping in US store).

Kindle is one of those items, where Amazon enforces strict policy of where and how you can buy it, EU or no EU. I had to order mine from US Amazon and wait a month to get it, even though it was "In stock" in UK Amazon at the time...

MaaaB, when you finally get your Kindle, please write up the process and add it to the wiki. Your troubles and solutions might be helpful for the next Egyptian who wants access to a Kindle.

And I was referring specifically to Kindle content (the ebooks) and the Kindle itself. The only place I can buy these things from (as a European, and EU member without a "native" amazon) is amazon.com. Believe you me, I have tried!
