Wow, this does look like a "perfect" set of hacks!!!
As soon as I find time, I'm putting them on my Reader.

I can't imagine going back to a plain vanilla Reader after tasting the goodness of the clock and joystick page turn hacks. Add the additional new stuff you've added and it's all the better!

Careful Nate, is there a copyright on this dictionnary?

It's from Project Gutenberg. Would they have it if it was still in copyright?

Okay. I *KNOW* I'm just being a whiney little brat, but it occurs to me (Damn! Now that I actually *have* a cell phone, I've gotten used to the damned thing!) this same technique could be used to allow 'texting' through the 0-9 function keys, just like we can enter messages on a cell phone.

So, *could* such a hack be written? After all, eReader Pro requires the entry of both a UserID and a password to 'unlock' their ebooks and if they enter the eInk ebook market, they'll probably keep that system in place.

Just a little something to keep DiabloNL occupied.

Yes text input on the numeric 0-9 keys can be done.

1. the next button you mean the page flip disc button? will the hacked joystick also work?

2. does it work for the book list part as well? with hundereds of books the book list now is 50+ pages, it will be great if it works there so finding a book will be faster
(note that in that section, the number button->% doesn't work, it jumps to the book instead, nor does the hold 5 sec->10 page turn, so it's a major pita, anything that helps to quicken the page jump will be great. or is it possible to turn off the number button->book, makes it 1%, 2% page jump etc just like inside book?)

great work and thx

given the limited power of cpu that will be hard and will run forever even if implemented
i think finding a book will be the best application, this will solve the flat file structure problem (biggest imho)

So would I, but it may not happen.

I am having trouble with the Webster's Unabridged(1913) I downloaded from PG.

The file is 45MB, and everything I have chokes on it. It would be best if anyone who has the inclination attempt to convert it.

The file is actually HTML with a TXT suffix. It is also an early draft, and I can't find a later one.

Yes the disc button or the small buttons on the right. No, the joystick won't work with this hack.

It is possible to make a similar hack for the book menu, TOC, history and bookmarks. But then you will loose the numeric selection on a page. So let's say you type in "50" and you jump to page 50. Then on page 50 you have 10 choices. The way to select them is only possible with the up/down joystick. So it could be useful but only when you have 10+ pages with books.

yes that's what i have in mind, that's way better than flip 50 pages, i think with more and more books available and bigger card, people will have a growing list of books, i read ppl have 2000 books, finding a book will take hundered page turns (there's just NO other way), if we can do jump page that will be mjor help

to be honest for me, i read from cover to cover so jump page within a book won't help me as much as an easy way to find book, i think lots of others will share the same view

i know right now some ppl carry fewer books, but that's not because they want to, only because they have to, to avoid the pain of finding book, if we can have finding book hack, that will remove the problem and enable people to carry all the books they have which is the biggest advantage of ereader imho

if you can find time to do it i am sure lots of ppl will love it

Let's find out.

Are there more people who would like to see this happen? So you will get direct page control in book menu's etc. but will loose numeric choice of a book and instead use the joystick up/down/enter.
