It would be nice if Amazon could think of a clever way to make the keyboard more discrete. I dont notice it anymore, though.

![]() You know how on the Amazon website, when they have different colors of the same product, it sometimes gets merged into one page with a bunch of boxes to click? Well that's how I think the Kindle page should be made: Amazon Kindle 6-inch screen | 9.7-inch 3G + WiFi | WiFi Only keyboard | touch graphite | white My point is that if Amazon took the TIME to develop an innovative page for the Kindle, it could be a lot simpler. Choosing from 16 different Kindles can get hard, but choosing between two options four times is quite manageable. Now, buying a Kindle from a brick 'n mortar store could get difficult ![]() |

Let's keep the Kindle for what is it made for. E-book reading. There's no need for touchscreen, physical keyboard is almost enough.
I hope on the next Kindle there will be a "time extender" button, when pressing you can have an additional hour per day for free reading and immediate quiet and peace around yourself :-) (Ok, if this is too hard, a new menu option is enough for me with the same result) |

argh NOOOO not a touch screen. My Kindle is great, page turn buttons either side and a keyboard down the bottom which doesn't get in the way (actually it increases the distance from the bottom of the reader to the bottom of the screen so I can lay down in my chair and rest it on my belly and still read).
Touch screens have their place IMHO, especially on interactive devices, but finger prints drive me nuts on my ipod and android phone when I am reading out and about (and so does the odd smudge on my screen from when I have wiped a sneeze). So no touch screen ereader for me. |

Unrelated, but I wish Amazon would show a 30 second alert before the K3 goes to sleep. Sometimes I have distractions during reading and when I get back to my Kindle, it may go to sleep right after I get back to reading.

I'm worried that a touchscreen will impact screen readability. And I'm also worried that the Kindle will become harder to carry without accidentally turning a page, etc. Maybe those fears aren't reasonable, but I don't know.
What I really want, though, is a better keyboard. I don't use the keyboard much, but when I'm looking for something, the round little chicklets on the K3 drive me nuts. |

I enjoy touch-screens, but I wouldn't want it on a Kindle. I don't need it for anything other than reading (if I'm going to use a browser or whatnot, I'll use another device), and it's great at just that.
I'm sure it's probably inevitable. But, I would prefer Amazon to keep touch-screen away from the Kindle. |

I agree that the chicklet KB is annoying to use, but I find it far better than a virtual keyboard. I use the KB a lot.

I have seen the Sony(?) ereader with a touchscreen, and it kind of ruins the paperlike appearance of the eink screen. It's too reflective. You can't see it with a backlit LCD, so those devices work fine.
I don't think that Amazon will add touch as a feature, unless they diversify into the LCD market. |

I've got an app like that on my Blackberry. You can set a warning for x seconds before the screen turns off and the keyboard locks. It vibrates and I can use the touchpad to keep it awake.

Touch is the best solution for only occasional keyboard input. You cannot get more compact.
I'm sure Amazon will implement Touch if they can do it well and keep the unit price down. |

Touch screen would be fine as long as it isn't nook like. Where it adds nearly as much space as a keyboard.

They can put a touch screen on the Kindle if:
1) They guarantee that I would never, ever have to use it if I didn't want to. There has to be a hard-key equivalent for every single feature/function that the touch screen provides. 2) Screen clarity/contrast is not affected in any way. Not even a little bit. Zero, nada, zip, zilch. 3) It doesn't increase the price. Period. Otherwise... I'm all for it. ![]() |
