Yes, like my late old man would say "Nobody will screw you up like your own family". But, that's why you have friends. If we can call us, strange creatures with Kindles, that way

I accidentally left my Kindle in a Pub one evening after popping in after work. It suddenly went missing. I was mightily p***ed off, but sent a document to the Kindle with a title of "NOTICE: STOLEN KINDLE!" pretending to be from Amazon UK and the local police constabulary, kindly asking the kindle to be returned to the pub or a local police station..
I used as much legalese talk as I could think of. It magically appeared back in the pub that I lost it at about 4 days later.
It definitely was not in the pub before that cos myself and the landlady searched the pub outside of opening hours.
So thankfully I was lucky. Although I was only a few hours away from reporting it to Amazon CS.

People who do as the OP's family did should get a good kickin' for it.. It's just not right at all.. Bastids!

Wow, that is a very touching and kind offer. I'll have to politely decline though, simply because I still have my own Reader. The Kindle they walked off with belonged to my lady -- though the fact that they stole her possessions after she passed away disgusts me even more than if they had stolen from me personally.

I really do appreciate the offer though. The warmth of the MR community continually amazes me.
