If that's the case my reader must be broken.. on the phone with Sony Support..Man this thing it's supposed to be brand new..I cant even sell it on ebay in this condition.

Have you tried flashing it with the new firmware and seeing if that fixes it?

I hard reseted the devices again because the reader hangs even after a soft reset.

Then I downloaded this book and tried to read it.

The minute I tried to read the first page. The reader's screen goes white and it becomes frozen again.

I am resetting it again. :-(

1.-I hard reseted the reader
2.-Re-Installed the latest firmware
3.-Re-Authorized the reader
4.-Downloaded the book (From your link)
5.-Tried opening the book.

First time I opened it, the reader soft-reseted by itself.
Second time I tried opening it, the reader hung.

Sony is gonna send me a new one after they receive this piece of Xhit.

I'm glad Sony s sorting out the problem. That's always good to know. Sony does seem to be pretty good with the reader for support. Even pretty good for the Connect Store as well.

Bad things happen when the reader tries to open too big files. Create a small txt read me file, delete/move all the books off of reader, put the small txt in reader and see if you can read it. Also, this wouldn't happen in linux lol.

Psst, eppythacher -- the Reader runs a Linux variant (MontaVista Hard Hat Linux 2.4.17 to be specific).

Er, the Reader does run Linux...

Perhaps you meant to say "this wouldn't happen in Windows?"

After 3 months of waiting and weekly calls to Sony. Then after getting my order cancelled, my money refunded and dispute with my credit card company. I thought I would never see the reader again and I was happy about that. I will NEVER buy a Sony product ever again. Ironic as most of my electronics are sony (TVs, DVDs, receiver, VCR, Disc changer) etc..

4 days ago I received a package. Had no idea what was inside.. It was a Sony Reader. WTF? I just dont understand what Sony is doing and I believe they dont have a clue either. Why would I get the reader? 1 month ago I got a VM saying my order was cancelled and credit was applied to my account.

Retards.

The good news. This reader works perfectly.. no freeze up, hungs. Just perfect.

I know this is an old thread but found it while googling PRS 505 freezing. My reader keeps freezing while opening various types of books, from rtf to pdf etc. Tends to freezing when I try to open the book, rather than while page turning - though this has happened. One of the PDFs was the User's Guide. Any ideas? Have I got a dud reader?

What is a soft reset? I've done the pin in the back thing, is that a hard reset?

Is it my imagination or does the reader slow down the more books you put on it?

Soft Reset = Pin in the back. Hard Reset involves holding certain keys when starting up after that - see here on the wiki for more info.
