Baen books is not a retailer; it is a publisher. If they don't publish the book in paper, then they won't have it as an ebook.

Baen only sell the books that they publish. They are a specialist fantasy and science fiction publisher, not a "general" book retailer.

The WebScriptions site has been branching out a little bit. They've been making a modest effort to get (non-exclusive!) electronic rights to books that Baen didn't publish but are nevertheless likely to be of interest to their readers. This has led to them carrying all the published Liaden books (including the chapbooks), all of P. C. Hodgell's God Stalk books, a bunch of Niven/Pournelle books (including "The Mote in God's Eye") and a modest variety of other stuff. They're still not trying to be a "general (e)book retailer" though -- instead they're trying to expand the acceptance of DRM-free, reasonably priced ebooks within the SF/Fantasy community. Remember, they're restricted to stuff where electronic rights are available -- and that (mostly) rules out stuff that is currently available from other publishers. They've been going after "good old stuff" instead.

Hi Xenophon.
Yes, I know - I've bought all the books you list . I'm a big fan of Baen - I'll buy pretty much everything they offer for sale. Another excellent (although rather expensive) non-Baen offering available through Webscriptions is David Weber's "Off Armageddon Reef", published by Tor. |
