I've had my Iliad for over a month now-- the honeymoon period is over but I still love it.

Originally I bought it with two things in mind: reading and editing. I'm an english undergrad going into my fifth year (nearly done, I swear!) and plan on pursuing my masters afterwards so instead of cluttering up my place with unnecessary paper (articles) and books, I'd rather have them stored in one place.

I find it's also a good tool for editing essays and fiction. I tend to write everything out before typing and need a pen and printout to edit-- just a mental quirk I have. It's also great for editing other's work as well.

Besides the iliad's academic use, I enjoy reading everyday books on it, along with manga.

Annah, what does your editing process look like? Are you making annotations in PDF and then transcribing them later? Or using something like Abiword?

I annotate in pdf and transcribe. Or if I'm editing other's work (say for my writing group) I'll annotate and send them a merged pdf. It's then up to them to try and reading my writing

I got my iLiad couple of days ago and I bought it mostly to read technical articles, blogs, books. But now I discovered this black shell harbors little linux inside and ideas what to do with it are flying, at least It even washed away my initial total frustration how bad the software/synchronization concept was out of the box.

Anyway, I already read 20 pages of my first e-book and couple of quite information-tight technical texts (had to use landscape-continuos mode) and i'm happy-happy, e-ink really works I never used stylus before and this is also one thing I completely like. I was also hoping for mp3 support but it seems the poor batteries of the device just aren't up to the task yet. Have to stick to my phone with this one. Now if I only had decent RSS reader on my iLiad who would pull up wifi, download stuff and enable offline reading, I would be in bliss. I've not tried HTML support yet, if it is good in Minimo, RSS reader would be just couple of scripts away...

I got my Iliad to replace my physical library of about 4,000 science fiction books.

Hey, I've got my iliad for school. I'm going to use it to follow the power point presentations and make notes on it. Else I need to print the entire slideshow on paper and either the slides are to small to make comments on, or you waste alot of paper (and ink).
It's very nice that I've got all my stuff with me at all time. It happens quite frequentely that you know the awnser to a question is in that book you left at home... I'm planning to scan all my technical books and put them on my iliad.
Now I've got a long vacation and I use it to read some rss feeds (free newspaper!) and read free books (that one of sherlock holmes just keeps me going ). But I haven't had alot of time to spend yet. I hope I'll get some real vacation in a few weeks.

Yes - too bad you can't do any searches with all of that data available - without a way to search, it severely limits the usefulness of the device.

You can do a search with text type files using a command line and grep, but I agree that a better search function would really be a boon on this device.
