Here's an interesting footnote in the early Apple iPad 2 sales: http://tech.fortune.cnn.com/2011/03/...to-new-buyers/

Quote:
65% of buyers owned an iPhone, 24% owned a Kindle (up from 13% of original iPad buyers), but only 6% plan to read with their iPad (down from 19% in Piper Jaffray's first iPad survey).
Apple's hype a year ago about "Amazon Kindle killer" and how you could read e-books on an iPad called out as a core activity in major presentations ... not so much. Owners of iPads generally do not use the iPad to read ebooks and fewer current buyers intend to. Reading ebooks on an iPad is turning into a "nice to have" feature which supports the notion that dedicated eink ereaders still have a strong niche appeal.

I don't know what kind of market research you did to come to that conclusion, but generally an ipad owner didn't bought an ipad for one task only (unlike ereaders). My #1 motivation to buy an ipad was for reading.

This would be interesting.

If you look at SensualPoet's post, you will notice that there is some underlined and colored text near the beginning. Clicking on it will magically take you to a new page where the first sentence of the first paragraph says the following:

Quote:
Gene Munster's team at Piper Jaffray walked the iPad 2 lines in New York City and Minneapolis and interviewed 236 would-be buyers.
For the Apple hype, I just point to the keynote:

Wait, Gene Munster walked the iPad 2 lines? The same Gene Munster who last week said don't expect long lines? The same Gene Munster who predicted 2010 iPad 1 sales at 4.3 million? (just 10.5 million off )

I, too, don't think this "survey" is very useful, just pointing out that there is a source for the numbers.
