If you really want to get access to your public library, get a Sony! In terms of technology, the Nook is an old device. I would not be surprise if they just release a new and better eink device by Nov. of this year. You maybe will save a few bucks buying a Nook, but you are not getting a device with long battery life or most recent pearl screen technology, think about it.

Now, please check those title on Internet. Most of copyright free books you find on public libraries are also available on MOBI format, so the Kindle should not be an obstacle on that matter.

I disagree. I have a K3, original nook, and a Sony 950, and my nook's screen looks shabby next to the other two.

nope disagree 1000% Even the Best Buy guy couldn't tell the difference and to my old friend Joe Campo, Pearl Screen is hardly cutting edge newer technology. It's an increas in contrast ratio, nothing earth shattering here. In fact if Eink doest do something really fast it will quickly become a niche market with all these tablets being released left and right.

making a slightly better contrast is the best eink has to offer in how many years of existance it's quite sad actually. And Barnes and noble matched it with just an update and no hardware change.

Ummmm... you're assuming the poster only wants copyright free books from the library. If the poster wants books under copyright from the library, then the Kindle is NOT a good choice at all.
