Where's the Kobo Wifi Upgrade - Page 2

1.8.4 ??

when i looked at my firmware yesterday, on the kobo wifi, it said 1.7 something.
am i missing an update?

also not sure if this is the right place to ask this,
how do i backup my ebooks i purchase on kobobooks.com?

i like having hard copies of all my stuff so i keep those on my pc and on an external hd.
i purchased 3 books and they're loaded fine on the kobo i just can't seem to find how to get the actual file. thanks and sorry if it's off topic.

You will need to install Adobe Digital Editions (ADE)
http://www.adobe.com/products/digitaleditions
Run ADE and authorize your computer.

Then sign into your Kobo account on the kobobooks.com website, and click on LIBRARY (top right hand of the blue header bar). For each book, click on Adobe DRM ePub (most books have this blue button). This will allow you to open or download an .acsm file. This is not a book, just a link to a book. Open each acsm file, which will download the ePub, and save it in the ADE library.

When you are done, click on the library view in ADE (top left hand icon). hover over the title of a book. There is a right-arrow; click it and a dropdown will appear where you can see "Item Info". Hover over the Filepath and it will display the location of the file. On my computer it's C:\Users\<username>\Documents\My Digital Editions.

In that folder, you should find all your ePubs, ready to archive. These books are DRM-protected and tied to your Adobe account.

(One of my books does not have an ePub. It is a public domain, free book)

Do we need to do a hardware reset before/afer we apply the update? I'm in the middle of a few books (side-loaded) and don't want to have to re-load my books (although could now Go-to page!!!).

No, you should be fine without a reset. Just to be sure, I would make a note of what pages you are on, and if you lose a bookmark, use the new Go To function to get to the last page you read.

nothing for me yet, i downloaded the desktop ap from the kobo site and that is now ver. 1.9 but my kobo is still 1.7.4.

guess i'll have to wait.

That might be a blessing in disguise...other threads in this forum seem to indicate some significant problems with the 1.9 release...

when your desktop app is open on the right side (top right) there is an i button,
click that and some info pops up telling you what version it is.

true, don't know how significant or if it's only a select number of people.
guess we'll find out more when it gets a wider release.

My Kobo desktop app discovered there was an update. I downloaded and installed that. However, the Kobo itself does not automatically detect the update and I can't find out how to tell it to download the new version. Anybody???

The desktop and reader software don't necessarily come at the same time.

My desktop was updated the first day, but then no reader update. Then later they made the reader firmware available.

When it's available it will tell you when you connect the reader.

So you have to connect by wire to get the update? I was just trying to get it through the Wifi.
