I have had the Original Kobo since launch day May 1, 2010. It had pretty good use through April (30 to 40 books read I suppose) when I got the WiFi model. The right hand side of the blue button has "sunk" a little into the case. This is in no way has impeded the performance of the unit. In all other respects, the unit has performed flawlessly (within the confines of the firmware and subsequent upgrades).

Is that what we are talking about? It's definitely not something I would ever consider replacing. The button itself is completely intact.

Yep - button is still intact, but has sunk down on the right side, leaving a gap. Still performs fine. I've been wondering if I could just keep it like that or if it would start to get worse over time and then eventually affect performance. I know another poster here crazy glued his to prevent dirt, dust or food from getting in the opening.

I am not particularly jumping for joy to exchange mine...do you think it will last another year or two with a sunken button?

That doesn't sound like a good option. I would be without my Kobo for probably about 4 - 6 weeks!
I can guarantee you that if you chose to ship your Kobo back to them, it will not take 4-6 weeks. The longest mine ever took was 2 weeks - and that was only because there was a mix-up with the return shipping address. I've had them take as little as 3 days from the time I sent it out, until it was back in my hands.
I had 6 units shipped and received and the customer support (I just did it through help.kobo.com) was fantastic. Quick and accurate. My replacements from the warehouse...that's totally separate.

For my final exchange they actually shipped my brand new WiFi first, and after receiving it, I could send my old one back.
If you're like me and read a book every week (or less) then I know how painful it is to be without it - but you'll be so much happier without having to always see/feel the defect that the time apart is worth it!
