Thanks to everyone who helped.

For anyone else who has problems:
- The product number is indeed PRS-650. Once that is entered a window will pop up and ask one to choose the colour option
- The serial number is the 7 digit number on the right of the two numbers on the back of the reader
- The date of purchase can be anydate
- The store from which the device was bought works better without a location

Perhaps because I don't have the Sony reading software on my newish computer (I use calibre) the ebooks came as a large zip file containing 50 ebooks in four folders - all in lrf format. All the books I've sampled so far have paragraphs separated without a space, and do not have indents.

Regards, Alex

Thanks, AprilHare

I agree, they're very good value for the price.

Hi there,

Thanks for posting about the free books from Sony.

I downloaded them but the "type" appears to be BBeB.

Will my PRS-650 be able to read this please as I always select EPUB?

I wiki'd BBeB and Wiki says "As of July 2010, the Sony ebook store states that they are no longer using the BBeB format, and have converted all books to the EPUB format."

Confused but thanks again,
Vic

I was able to read them on my Sony PRS-650.

They all have the .lrf suffix. I think you'll find that although Sony publishes books in ePub format it the readers retain the ability to read books in .lrf format, and that was the format Sony used before ePub became available.
