Since they're priced identically, I'd go with the Xoom. It has a card slot ...but, I'd never spend that kind of money on any portable device.

Actually the HP WebOS tablet seems to be the most capable one, at least their software is ahead of the game with real multitasking (not saving the last position and then restarting)

$500 is my limit. Xoom doesn't sell a $500 model.

That's my limit too, for something that doesn't run applications.

for me I will not spend beyond the $200-$300 range for a non-Slate PC level device and even then my upper limit will be $500. There is nothing in these devices which has any higher component costs than the typical $300 netbook. And given the software,OS and apps, are far from mature and thus not fully capable, I am again leaning back to buying nothing again this year in my search for a large format device. I would rather spend $300 for a pocket sized, well 5"-7" device with 3G and wifi than $700-$800 for a device not able to function at least as well as a netbook running a full OS.

Yeah, exactly - the Xoom has matched the price on one of Amazon's more expensive models, but are still $200+ above the entry level price of the iPad (and I think that the $500 wifi iPad is by far the most popular model).

While I'm perhaps vaguely interested in a tablet (more as a toy than as anything else, really...but, hey, I've always liked toys), and would prefer a non-Apple version due to concerns over e-reader apps, I haven't really seen a compelling alternative yet...despite Android and makers having had a year to come up with something. I mean, when you can't even match Apple's prices, there's something of a problem that I see.

Plus, you can get a refurbished iPad 1 for $350, and a new iPad 1 for $400.
