I agree, there is no silver bullet, all I was trying to say was that in the last 100 years we have done things that in the previous 1000 years would have been unthinkable. In the next 100 years there is bound to be a better understanding of the problems and better technologies to either reduce the current foot print or to reverse the damage already done. Honestly to think otherwise would really be an admission of defeat and a reason to drink ourselves silly.

"Worrying about the end of the world will only bring it on faster" I paraphrase and can't remember who said it, so what's the relevance to this discussion? Any problems worried about are problems not being solved.

Basically we need people to reduce their impact on a personally level, this is obvious, but we can't expect people in the third world countries, and the largest portion of our total population to follow this guide, many of these people are just trying to survive. So the scientists in the developed nations need to come up with the "Silver Bullet".
