As I said in the second post, there is an update for the 500 to give epub access but it is a return to Sony hardware and firmware upgrade... even if you found the new firmware, it wouldn't do any good as the 500 will still need its hardware upgraded... and it was a free upgrade...

Sony may want to get the reader back and charge you for doing the update. I tried to follow the links on Sony's web site for this and they are all dead links, so I am not sure if they still offer this service.

I agree that it would be a good idea to check into it though.

I suggest contacting Sony in the USA about getting your 500 upgraded. I know it's been done before by another forum member who does not live in the USA. If you want to do it cheaper, get Skype and buy some credit and the call will cost a lot less.
