I think the reader uses a reduced duty cycle scan on the infrared touch screen to save power while waiting for a swipe. When it detects activity, it goes into a higher resolution scanning mode and finds the exactly location and kind of input (a swipe, a double tap on word, a tap and drag for highlighting)
If you swipe too quickly it reader doesn't always catch it. Another issue with page change swipes happens if your swiping motion is irregular or bounces a little, which can cause a word to be highlighted. Technically the touch screen needs ZERO pressure since it's optical, but although you don't need any pressure, you do need to maintain enough contact to keep the touch screen from registering your single swipe as multiple inputs to keep this from happening. A smooth, not too rapid, diagonal swipe seems to work best for most people. Don't worry, practice does indeed improve things, so after you use your reader for a little while, these kinds of glitches become pretty rare. ![]() Last edited by delphin; 02-28-2011 at 08:18 AM. |

There's no problem buying brand new, sealed products from Walmart if you know precisely what you're buying. I've bought 2 laptops and a desktop from Walmart, and a few other small electronics from there over the years. Never a problem. I've bought all my DS's from there, several Wii's for myself and for gifts and assorted video games for the units. A Sony reader is a Sony reader. It's new. It's sealed. It's user error plain and simple not a defective product. If a product is ever defective from the get-go, which can happen, it's the easiest return you'll ever need to make. I sometimes have comically bad luck with things. I bought a 2-disc DVD of Snow White from the Disney store years ago only to find my particular copy only had 1 disc. LOL Back to the store I went!! I bought a desktop from Dell and turned it on to....nothingness. hmm?? Guy comes out to fix it and replace the power supply. It turns out the guts weren't plugged in properly. LOL Ooopsie! Stuff can happen but just to say that the issue is because it was bought from Walmart is a disservice to them. You can get DOA electronics from anywhere, even the Sony store itself. If I was going to get a DOA product from anywhere I'd rather it be from Walmart. Oh sorry, it doesn't work? Got your bill? Ok, here's a new one. We're sorry about that. Done! |
