Things that are ok for me in Kindle 3:
-Battery. Perfect. -Screen. Perfect contrast. Perhaps more resistent. I think that will be a bad idea add touch screen or color lcd like nook. -Games. Now with chess is perfect for me. -WIFI. Ok. Things to improve in Kindle 4: -99 USD. -Better internet browser -Covers like shelves -Nothing more. I imagine that Kindle 4 will be launched at 2012's spring. |

as everyone else has been saying before, i would love to have better organisation of my books.
i was thinking the other day whether to wait for k4 or buy k3 now. i'd also like it that if ever k4 came out with a touchscreen, that it would also come out with a stylus (in different designs, like real pens!) and enable us to make notes with that. it'd be cute xD Last edited by wyndslash; 02-25-2011 at 02:50 AM. |

Yes, and that glass substrate is brittle and can break even when there is no visible damage to the outer layer or the kindle unit itself. I found this out the hard way. Twice. The first time, I didn't even know that I'd broken it. I thought it just malfunctioned.

The K1 was out for close to two years before the K2 was announced. I think the K2 was out for 18 months before the K3 was announced. I would be surprised to hear about a K4 this year. We will have a good idea that it is coming when a press event is annoucned at a big library of sorts.
I think that Amazon will wait until it has a touchscreen that it really likes that can be produced for the price of the 3G K3 or color e-ink before releasing the K4. Now that I said that, there will be an accouncment of a K4 next month. |

Subdirectories. Or collections within collections. Like mentioned before, could be done via software upgrade.

How about releasing an up-to-date Kindle DX?
Seriously, if a group of Chinese coders can implement better PDF viewing, and support for many file formats (such as DJVU, EPUB), why can't Amazon? Surely it's not because they lack the resources. They need to release a real 3rd Generation Kindle DX, with Wi-Fi. |

I vaguely remember reading somewhere about Amazon buying a touch screen company sometime last year. I like my Kindle just the way it is. I don't know that I'd want a touch screen.

I'd ask for a bit more. I remember when, about ten years ago, you could get most of the parts needed to build a computer free after rebate. US$99 with a $99 active content gift certificate, for the previous model, should be possible. As for improvements, make the the background white, not grey. Whether this is technically feasible, I don't know. Someone previously mentioned subdirectories. This could be provided by third party amazon.com developers for the price of a game, if Amazon let them, and Amazon would share in the revenue. Why don't they allow this? Why don't they allow amazon.com third party developers to produce screen savers? Maybe their lawyers are afraid of getting sued if the features come included with a future operating system. Or maybe not. |

I suspect that they will probably release a new DX first before a k4 and I bet they do something similar to what they did the last time: slap the old hardware (in this case k3) into the new shell. (it's a good, cheap way for them to create hype and build anticipation for their real money maker- the 6" kindles.) it'll look like a 4th gen but really be a 3rd gen, just like the DXG looks like the 3rd gen but really is 2nd gen. meh.. they kinda tricked us the last time but it shouldn't happen again. ![]() we should know what to expect now. |

a white background? I really don't know if that would be so great. perhaps less grey maybe with better contrast. I think the contrast is much more important/desirable than a pure white background for comfortable reading. |

@steve: a white background would make my eyes hurt. i'd prefer the grey, but maybe they should just offer us choices.

I'd have to say no to the touchscreen. That's just one more thing to drain the battery that much quicker. If you want touchscreen, I suggest buying a phone/device that supports the Kindle App.
I would like to see the keyboard buttons have an extra layer of lamination or clear plastic so that the letters and symbols don't wear off. I've only had the kindle 3 months now and I'm already noticing the arrows are fading on the 5-way d pad. I would also enjoy seeing a plastic shield of some sorts to help protect the screen. I would like to see what amazon did in the Kindle App which was allow color mode (i.e. black background/white text, sepia background/black text, etc). |
