that can be a sign of a faulty charge cable... if you know someone that has a nook color as well then try borrowing theirs... if not take it to BN and have them test it...

wow... joined a sign just to share the one insight i really have about the nuances of the NC

I also had troubles with my NC cable. The end with the n split open - looked like the glue or whatever sealer they used came loose. I held it together with a hair elastic for a while, then the green LED went out - only the red one would come on when charging. Went by a B&N store - they said bring it in and they would swap it out with one in a NC box that was being returned. Did that - new cable seems a little shorter - the end with the n seems smaller. might just be my imagination. It works fine.

If you're wondering whether removoing the back cover on the NC will void your warranty, yes it will. I spoke to customer service on 092511 because my SD card would come out and I removed the cover to recover it. I was told I was not authorized to remove the cover and therefore I voided the warranty. I can't use my SD card slot now. I was gonna go to a B&N and make sure this is true. I wouldn't have had to remove the cover if it wasn't for the fact that the SD card got stuck in the slot. The cables cracking is a common issue. It happened to mine - since I bought mine at Staples and live a good two hour drive from the nearest B&N, I merely called CS and they shipped me a new one free of charge.
