When converting EPUB books, insert page break before is set to /, overriding the default setting. This is because most epub books are already paginated and the global default of inserting page breaks before h1 and h2 tags is usually wrong for conversion of EPUB.

You have to explicitly override the setting in the conversion dialog for the individual book.

I've added a question to the ticket asking for clarification,

That the 'Reset to defaults' won't reset the 'Insert page breaks before' field, to whatever is stored in preferences.

Restore defaults actually replaces anything in that field with a / not with what you have set in main preferences. Seems like a bug to me.

Just so I understand this, 'Resetting to default' won't reset this field to whatever is stored in preferences?

Yes, but only if the input format is epub.

this is daft - either have apply defaults to all formats or have a full blown, separate epub defaults screen

preprocessing used to be like this - 1 rule for epub , different rules for everything else, but that got sorted.

I think that now, the "epub default" rule take precedence if I select a bunch of books in multiple formats & apply removed saved preferences. At that stage I have not indicated what format I plan to convert From, so it is logical to expect the real defaults to be applied.

take my current example of a dozen books, currently in lit & epub, where I want to rerun the lit to epub conversions using my current default preferences - I don't want the program deciding for me that those books do not need paginating, when I know that they do!
