FOUND THEM!!
Thanks, Hopkinsenglish!
Your suggestion to delete and re-download the Kindle for Mac app WORKED! This gave me the 1.4.0 version (apparently 1.2.3 wasn't the latest, tho' it said so) The Preferences screen for the 1.4.0 version then had a bunch of new stuff, including the pointer to the Kindle Content -- strangely in Username->Library->Application Support->Kindle->My Kindle Content All my files are there. 1.Launch your Kindle App on your Mac
2.Select Preference within the Kindle App 3.Under Content Folder hit "Change" 4.Create a new folder on the desktop labeled whatever you want The contents of your Kindle (books, docs, etc) will automatically be copied to this new folder. 5.Connect your iPad to your Mac 6.Open iTunes 7.Select your iPad Tab to the left of the "iTunes Store" tab at the right of your screen 8.Select the "Apps" tab 9.Under "File Sharing" at the bottom of the screen select Kindle 10.Drag and drop files from the new folder containing your Kindle files to the Kindle Documents Hope this helps…it sure was a pain in the butt for me too! |

I know this is an ancient thread, but in case people have come in because there's a new reply and they're wondering about the same thing - there is a quicker way to make My Kindle Content quickly accessible - drag the folder to the right hand side of the dock. From there, a right-click (command-click, double-finger tap) will allow you to Open In Finder any time. Then just sort the file list by date and you can grab the most recent ebook file off the top for disinfection.

Most definitely in hidden files. The Easy Find app recommended above helped me locate it. My path is:
/Users/username/Library/Containers/com.amazon.Kindle/Data/Library/Application Support/Kindle/My Kindle Content Easy Find beats Spotlight by a mile. Thanks. |

Thanks sss222. Your suggestion worked perfectly for me. To that point nothing else was working. Brilliant on your part.

found 'em, can't do nuthin' with 'em
Thanks to this thread I was able to locate my kindle books on my imac. I also moved them to another folder. However, I'm unable to add them to my Adobe Digital Editions Library or do anything else with them for that matter. It appears I must always have the kindle app in order to read them. I guess that's ok. I just feel like I ought to be able to open the files with ADE if i want to since I paid for the books. Oh well. The kindle app is free at this point.

You'll also need calibre to do the conversion once Alf's has helped with the DRM problem.

I really appreciate the responses. That was my first post here and I was just sharing my experience, thanks and thoughts. I don't want to do anything untoward with regards to Amazon. I'm a "little bit older" - and used to doing whatever the heck i want with books that I buy. I was just a little disconcerting to look through my hard drive and not be able to locate actual files that i had paid for - they were only accessible through the Kindle app. Then, when found, all grayed out - not touchable. It's not a big deal. I think it's great that they're always available to me from Amazon. For a person who's a "little but older" and has seen many institutions and file formats and data storage formats, operating systems, corporations etc. come and go (bought and sold, bankrupt, etc.) - it's just one of those things that lends itself to causing a tiny bit of insecurity

You can do whatever you want with your Kindle books; all I'm saying is that the Kindle doesn't use ePub format, so ADE won't read Kindle books unless you convert them to ePub format.
