Coming along fine this far.
There's a new wrinkle: Mozilla now has a Fierfox 4.0 Beta13Pre release. But apparently, that's a bit of confusion caused by their release mechanism. They aren't planning an actual Beta 13, and Beta 12 is the last before an actual release candidate for 4.0. Beta13Pre shows in the Trunk builds area on ftp.mozilla.org, while Beta12Pre shows in the TraceMonkey builds area. There doesn't seem to be a lot of difference between them. No matter - the scripts will need to be adjusted when FF 4.0 gets an actual release, as it won't be called Minefield, and I'll create a different zip archive of the release program directory. The only maintenance needed thus far is that new nightly builds get released, and they get downloaded and update the program directory on the ramdisk, so I need to update the master directory on the hard drive as well. I could probably automate that, too, but it's not worth the extra effort. Simpler to just do it manually when there is a new update applied. Meanwhile, FF 4.0 is coming along nicely. I reverted to FF 3.6 to do some comparisons on memory usage, and was happy to go back to FF 4. (Yes, FF 4 uses more memory, but I expected it to. It's unsuitable for low end hardware, like the old notebook I have running Ubuntu with 256MB RAM, but so is FF 3.6. I don't even try to run FF on that box. Midori is a better fit. ______ Dennis |
