I have to agree that the poll isn't setup correctly and is missing entries. So (IMHO) this poll is not going to give the proper results.

In terms of dollar amount of my own money, Fictionwise in 1st place, then Kobo, with Baen's Webscription as a close 3rd, and Amazon as a distant 4th. Plus a few other occasional purchases from other sources (direct from author and the like).
In terms of # of non-public-domain books acquired, it would have to be Amazon for all the freebies, then B&N, then Sony & Kobo & Borders, all of whose time-limited promotional offerings dwarf even the multi-page bookshelf of stuff I bought at Fictionwise. Well, except maybe Borders. They were kind of skimpy on the freebies, so I think I may have more FW paid books. |

I, too, could not accurately participate. I get a lot of books from Amazon, but I don't *buy* a lot of books from Amazon. For actual money spent, it's probably Fictionwise, followed by B&N, then Amazon. I also get ebooks from Fictionwise, but usually with freebie coupons. Then there are at least four or five other stores I've gotten a few books from. I spread my shopping out quite a bit.

I buy mostl from B & N, then from Sony, after that Amazon and after Amazon I will say Fictionwise. I used to buy mostly from Fictionwise but that has changed,

I agree on the poor selection. I think, no offense intended, that the originator may not be from the United States. If so he/she might not have access to some of the e-stores we use here in USA.
I only buy ebook from Books-on-Board. Though, I did buy one from Astaks bookstore when Astak looked like it would take off. But now, only BoB. Btw, though I know this will cause comments I probably won't answer, I wouldn't buy anything from Amazon. AJ |

An Australian epub perspective:
Now that Borders/A&R are in deep excrement, what will become the place you purchase ebooks from? Surely not Dymocks, given their prices? |

Quote:
Kobo just announced that they "can" only quote me prices anymore in euros, despite the fact that I use a US credit card to make my purchases. Have to see what that does to the cost of buying from them - I think my US card will charge me for the conversion, while I KNOW my French credit card will charge a service fee for the "outside the EU" purchase. Won't stop me from buying from them - but it will complicate the comparisons a little bit. |

This poll is more than a bit confusing.
Why is Baen in all caps when none of the other publishers are? Where is Smashwords? Where is O'Reilly? Where is an option for authors' websites collectively? Is "Web Subscriptions" meant to be "Webscriptions"? If so, that's Baen. Why can I only pick one store, when I buy ebooks from several? I didn't even bother answering. The poll is useless. |

Also, you've missed out BeWrite Books, they sell DRM-free e-books.
I suggest that you ask a moderator to amend the poll for you. A moderator's name is coloured green (eg HarryT). Look at Forums -> What's Going On? -> Currently Active Users, to see which moderators are currently on-line, then send one of them a Private Message. I don't know whether the poll can be changed to multi-choice, but I'm pretty sure that a moderator could add more book stores to the list for you. Last edited by boxcorner; 02-20-2011 at 04:53 AM. |

I can't vote, I use BooksonBoard pretty much exclusively. I've downloaded freebies from Sony, but never made any actual purchases. Back before agency pricing went into effect I looked in the Sony store and everything I wanted to read was much more expensive there; these days, it's the same price, and my BoB habit is pretty well ingrained.

Like the others it is hard for me to vote.
Since we're heavily Kindle-Centric here all other things being equal I will buy from Amazon. I find they have the best selection for what I read and often the best prices. But I'm a price floozy. If a Kobo Discount code can get me a better deal I'll be clicking away over there. I bought numerous books from Fictionwise during the recent 55% off code. Then I'm over at Baen to buy my son's books because that is what he likes to read. The poll would be better if we could choose several options. Except I think you'd find a large percent of the users here at MobileRead are like me and shop at several stores. |
