I tried this custom saturated view with one of my books and I found the edge definitions got too rough. I preferred the default setting. Probably depends on the actual font and its base size (I like a relatively small font).

For my preferred setting of 127 and -125, the LexiaDaMa font looked the best for a serif font, and Verdana for a sans serif. I don't notice any rough edges on the text, and the letters line up nicely. CharisSIL was particularly bad with alignment for me, a lot of letters were slightly below the normal line of text, which I found really annoying to keep viewing. I think it's just a matter of experimenting until you find a font you like at the setting you think gives you the most saturation as you prefer. For myself, the time I spent experimenting was well worth it, I set all my books now to use the LexiaDaMa font. While I could make do with the default font, it gets more difficult for me to read while on public transportation with the constant bumps from the train or bus. Changing the font for me helps immensely with that problem. Edit: Btw, I found a simple way to have the custom settings I prefer always available for every book on the Reader. When you have your reader connected to your PC, open up the file "database\cache\cacheExt.xml". Find any book where you have changed your custom view settings to see what the correct info is. Then just do a search for toneCurveType="0:0,0" contrast="0" brightness="0" and replace all instances with toneCurveType="5:," contrast="32767" brightness="-16000" (that's for 127 -125, use whatever your setting is for the book you already changed). Save the file and done. Be sure to save a backup copy of the file if you're not comfortable with editing it, just in case. Last edited by Ripplinger; 03-01-2011 at 05:42 PM. |
