It started as a rumor, then later they said no plans to do that soon but did not make any additional comment about it.

With Nook Color just recently launched, it makes more sense to push the Nook Color and firmware upgrades for it that promoting the Nook 3G. Nook wifi is less expensive and you can get really good deals now. Also, Nook has no International support like Amazon Kindle (in case you are planning to travel with it) so unless you truly need 3G on the go or have no wifi at home, I would save those extra bucks and buy or keep the wifi version only. 3G on a tablet or iPad makes more sense to me: a more rich multimedia and color experience. But besides downloading online books, there is no additional value of having 3G on an eink device (Kindle could be the exception, because the International Support). That's my opinion.

I was also very tempted by the refurbished Nooks. I hear that most of them are perfect hardware wise, but were returned by folks who didn't know what they were getting in an e-ink reader or because the first release software was a bit flaky.

Upgraded to the second release and later software the Nook is a really nice reader.

If your local library has "Overdrive" e-book lending services, get Adobe Digital Editions installed and registered, and you can start downloading titles now, and then when your Nook arrives, register it with Adobe as well as B&N and you will be able to read free library books on your Nook.

I guess it varies from area to area, but my local library has almost 700 book titles available in EPUB format.

Check out the Singapore Library. It is for free and has tons of books available. The General Fiction section alone counts more than 12000 titles!
