Thanks for the script, I installed it in my jailbroken 3.0.3 device, as I am not interested in the new update. I've since turned wifi on and nothing happened. I'll report back if an update does get pushed through.

If you want to disable even downloading of the update file to your Kindle, take a look at this.
fake_update.zip contains 10 MB file named FWUOupdate-10-553210206-558700031.bin.partdldtmp.partial. Put this file in the root of your user store. If your current firmware has different release number than 553210206, rename the file appropriately. This 10 MB file with dummy contents will utterly confuse the downloader because the real update file size is about 7 MB. It won't be able to continue the download. |

In fact this folder containing your data is NOT the root folder of the entire Kindle device - you are not allowed to access the real root unless you have usbNetwork installed. |

If you're paranoid then install also disable-autoupdates hack (prevents autoinstalling of a successfully downloaded update) and if you are extra-paranoid then install also updates-provider hack (even if the installation would try to start, the update file's key will be unrecognised and the update will be refused).

IHMO, good idea to disable auto-download update files is to modify Kindle version, to example 3.2, so Amazon will think it's already updated

No, it doesn't. This fake update is specific for 3.0.2 -> 3.1 upgrade step.

https://www.mobileread.com/forums/sho...d.php?t=122000 If you use any other jailbreak then this functionality is built-in - have a look at the jailbreak instructions to see how to to disable the updates (you will need to create a file with certain name on your Kindle) |
