and it gets worse, AFAIK you can google how to de-drm books sent to kindle, but not books sent to K4PC, as that uses harder-to-break DRM

The way Kindle DRM is set up, you can't move DRM'd files directly from one Kindle-related device to another. This also has the effect of stopping you from reading said ebooks on Calibre's internal mobi reader or on Kindle Previewer. The best solutions I can think of in this case is to have Calibre set up more than one library- one for each device; OR create a custom column field in Callibre wherein you indicate which device certain ebooks are for; OR you break the DRM on your ebooks. mmm... not necessarily. I haven't tried it lately for K4PC, but I think the one tool I use can break K4PC and standard Kindle ebook DRM, as well as Topaz files; and I visited Alf. |

So if my plugins are working you think I can import K4PC files linked to one Amazon account into Calibre even though Calibre is set up for a different Amazon account (the one my actual Kindle is attached to).

The first time I tried to do this my plugins wouldn't work. I'm not sure if this is related or not but I don't really want to trial it again. |

![]() For K4PC files (and K4PC files only), the plugin in question will only work properly (out of the box) on the machine where K4PC is installed and registered to the account where the ebooks you're importing into Calibre originated from. So you could register K4PC, download ebooks and import to Calibre. Then unregister K4PC and register to the next account, download those ebooks and import to Calibre. Lather, rinse, repeat. Or, you can do some tweaking and keep separate kindle.info files (one for each different account registration) and the plugin will attempt to use each of them until one works, but it still needs to be on the original machine where the ebooks were downloaded to K4PC. Instructions and assistance provided "elsewhere." Last edited by DiapDealer; 02-18-2011 at 09:11 AM. |

If not: Calibre itself doesn't care about which website or account you got what ebooks from. All Calibre cares about is whether or not it can read/edit the files. If you have DRM on an ebook, then it's the DRM that is picky about which device it lets read it. It's not Calibre's fault. If so: If you are using a DRM breaking plugin in Calibre, then it is my understanding that the plugin only cares about knowing the serial number (or PID maybe) of the device which the DRM will only play nice with. Again, (iirc) even the plugin doesn't care about your Amazon account, but only about what device you told Amazon you were using the file for when you downloaded it. |

What I am contemplating doing is: 1) My Kindle is registered to Amazon account A. I have entered this Kindles serial number into Calibre. 2) Purchase books on account A and "transfer via Computer" then inport into Calibre, then transfer to my Kindle 3) Have K4PC set up with Amazon account B. Purchase books on account B. I want to inport them into Calibre |
