I used the basic recipe method with the rss feeds. But for some reason when I view it on my kindle, it looks like Calibre copied the normal SacBee page, rather than the minimalist rss feed. For each article I get four or five pages of extraneous text from the menus at the top of the normal page ("sign in join reader services," etc.). Do any of you know why this is happening? Any suggestions for eliminating all that other text?

add
use_embedded_content = True to your recipe. |

That made a difference. I don't get the extraneous menu info now. But the articles have been shortened to about one paragraph. I will try to find some documentation about how this is supposed to work.

It appears to my untrained eye that even though SacBee has several rss feeds, the articles that the feeds refer to are the full web pages. Each individual page has a print version that appears to use a standard convention for the url. For example, the pager the rss feeds refer to may be this:
http://www.sacbee.com/2011/04/09/354...i_rss=Business The print version inserts "v-print" in the url like this: http://www.sacbee.com/2011/04/09/v-p...education.html Is there an easy way to insert "/v-print" into each link contained in the rss feeds? |

Implement the print_version method in your recipe.

That looks like a good idea. I am trying to figure out the syntax for this. But the going is slow because I don't really know what I am doing and am figuring it out by trial and error. What I need to do is insert "v-print/" within a url. For example, here is a typical article from the rss feed:
http://www.sacbee.com/2011/04/09/354...i_rss=Business I need to automatically insert "v-print/" like so: http://www.sacbee.com/2011/04/09/v-p...education.html It doesn't appear to matter whether "#mi_rss=Business" appears at the end. Are any of you willing to tell me a simple way to do this? Thanks. |

Recipe for Sacramento Bee
Hi, using the instructions in the previous posts, I made this very simple recipe. Not all the feeds from the Bee are added in, but these seem to work well.
Hope this is helpful. It looks great on my Kindle 3. |
