I'll come in a bit more mainstream, Kenny, amid some excellent suggestions above.
For some great, emotional music mixed with comedy, you can't go wrong with "Little Shop of Horrors." Great lyric writing too; you've got to take your hat off to: "Though the gun was never fired, still the way events transpired, I could finish him with simple laissez-faire!" Graham |

And I'll also give a shout out to Disney, who've been in the business of screen musicals a long, long time of course.
If you've not seen them, you really should catch up with "The Little Mermaid", "Beauty and the Beast" and "Aladdin" - those three the same team as "Little Shop of Horrors", though the lyricist Howard Ashman sadly died during "Aladdin" - and "Lion King" in particular. There have been some great songs in more recent Disneys as well, but they hit a modern purple patch with those four. Graham |

Whatever the next show that comes to town, I LOVE theater, especially musicals. There is one exception though; I hated Les Miserable, such a dark and violent show!
Perhaps I had a former life during the French Revolution that wasn’t so nice. Last edited by wodin; 02-04-2011 at 11:31 PM. Reason: My French is non existant |

When I was 17 or so there was the musical 'Hair', flower power, free love and all that.
And those mysterious songs like Aquarius. Though I never did see it and only knew the record by heart, it made a huge impression on me. So different from what we had seen before. Much later I saw The Phantom, Miss Saigon, Lion King etc. But it was never the same. Last edited by desertblues; 02-04-2011 at 06:17 PM. |

Anything by Andrew Lloyd-Webber. The man is a genius in my book.
Fiddler on the Roof. The story-line was very true to life. Cheers |

Les Miserables - I'm going to see it again next month
Oliver! - I've always loved this one Oklahoma! - I just can't say no. Across the Universe - Great Beatles songs. A Funny Thing Happened On the Way to the Forum - ROFL! The Young Girls of Rochefort - The Umbrellas of Cherbourg is probably a better movie but I like this one. Catherine Deneuve and her sister are gorgeous. Dr Horrible's Sing-along Blog - Doogie can sing! Little Shop of Horrors - Hilarious Moulin Rouge - I didn't like it at first, but it's grown on me. Li'l Abner - Our high school drama club put on a production. Hairspray - Who would have thought that there would be a big Broadway musical of a John Waters film. I'm waiting for the musical version of Pink Flamingos. Bride and Prejudice - Jane Austin gets the Bollywood treatment Last edited by BenG; 02-04-2011 at 10:49 PM. |

One of my favorites (being someone else who sees musicals only on DVD) is the "Les Miserables - The Dream Cast in Concert" DVD, worth having for Lea Salonga's performance of On My Own on it's own.
