No way! Folk are very happy to accept anything done for them - not so interested in doing anything - Folk would say 'Yes', even if they did not know if they would use the material much in that form.

The users of my site are interested in the material I provide - generally they have (like many Apple users ) no interest or ability in the technical side of things - fair enough - but it doesn't help me

I, sadly, am too old to learn much technical depth. A little bit of html, reg-ex, macros is my limit. I am a user, but because I am a continuous user folk think I am an expert

The kind of responses you would get would still be an indicator of real interest.

True for most users, on any site. Sies spend a lot of time and effort making it as easy as possible for visitors to find and access content without having to know the technical details.

HTML, regex, and macros is a good starting point.
