It's hard to be sure, as Amazon don't give sales for just books, only for their 'media' division.

In 2009, my guess is that Amazon have at least 20% of the total US retail book market. I suspect that this has only increased in 2010.

I'd be surprised if there wasn't a $99 Kindle by the end of October 2010.

Give it 6 months and e-books will be outselling hardback and paperback books combined.

I do ...

Believe or not, I visit B&N a lot with my Kindle 3, which is kind of ironic. I drink coffee while reading and if I'm interesting in a book that is in stock there, I also take a look before buying in Amazon.

I'm not surprised. I've seen a huge boost in sales since Christmas.

it would be fun to know the break down numbers for sales of The Price Fix Five, or is it Six or Seven by now?

Also would love to be a "bot" the the Amazon Machine to peek as the break outs for each price range starting from $14.99-$15.99 (or higher, wherever the begin pricing ebooks released with the release of the HB version) then down in dollar decrements. Basically what is the real sweet spot for pricing? Then cross reference those numbers over time to watch the pattern emerge.

I was thinking the same thing until yesterday, when I saw a woman reading one on the train. She was several seats away, but I could read what she could, the font was so large! No need for large-type library books anymore .

I was thinking the same thing. If you own a Kindle, you pretty much have to buy through amazon.com (i.e. the US "store") unless you live in the UK. English language p-books are available through all the various branches of Amazon - UK, France, Germany, Japan (that I know of) and surely the others (Canada, China, Italy, any others these days?) - so the comparison could well be "Kindle e-book sales worldwide (or almost) vs. paperback sales through Amazon.com only."

And as each year passes, I can't tell you how thankful I am for the ability to make the type larger on my Sony 950.

OK, I understand why Kindle owners wouldn't take their Kindles out of the house -- they're embarassed at not having bought a Sony! (Only kidding, of course.)

I take my Sony 950 everywhere with me. It fits neatly in my jacket pocket and when the weather is nice enough to leave the jacket at home, I carry it in a waist pouch. I did the same with my Sony 505, which has been passed down to my wife who also takes it out with her.

Truthfully, I would never have bought an ereader device if it wasn't portable and I didn't plan to take it out with me. Financially, it wouldn't have been justifiable largely because of the ebook EULAs (which I do know we can get around by stripping DRM), especially now with agency pricing.
