I read novels. Primarily romances. I sometimes read a book a day. I will read whenever I have the chance, and I don't leave the house without a book. If I'm standing in line at costco I'll read. etc. I read at night when my husband is sleeping, but booklights don't bother him.
What I want in an ereader is a touch screen. I think that is the biggest priority. I like the idea of a color screen, but I could probably live without it. I would prefer a wifi connection for my purchases, but since I buy primarily from kobo I will only get that with a Kobo reader. I always have my iphone for fall back, and have a large selection of reading apps on there. I would want fast page turns, prefer not to have the "blink" but realize it is unavoidable with eink. Long battery life is a definate bonus. |

I too also LOVE LOVE buying books from Kobo, I think I use them more than Barnes and Noble themselves. ![]() ![]() Now are you downloading nookbooks just fine? No questions there? Should be fairly easy and straight forward, especially using their "Shop" App. Just think of sideloading your books you bought from Kobo like you would synching up your MP3 player from songs you bought from Amazon Mp3 or anything along those line, if you own one. The principles are basically the same. |

I can download nookbooks no problem. Now that I know I don't have to put them in ADE I'm good there. I prefer not to though, they are more expensive and I think will only work on a nook. I prefer not to limit my future self.
I am able to sideload my books on the nook fairly well. It is more that I can't do it unless I'm at home. Of course I can always read on my iphone until I get home. I very very seldom shop at Amazon. I have been in the Nook forum. I have tried using the sticky to make my covers show up, and so far have been unsuccessful. I find that thread very long to sift through to find the "directions" on how to make it work, so I may have missed something. I'm probably being overly picky. I am not going to be able to have multiple ereaders, so this feels like a big thing, that has to be "perfect". As I say to my husband, its really quite scary to be me. Thankyou for all your help and feedback. |

Hi Deborah
As mentioned, BN uses a different DRM to ADE, so you can't copy BN books to ADE. However you should be able to copy the ADE books to the nook. AFAIK the only e-ink readers with touchscreens are the Sonys, but of them only the 950 has connectivity. Also, I don't think colour e-ink is commercially available yet, so colour screens are not e-ink and you won't get the long battery life. So you have to choose what is more important to you. At the moment you say that touchscreen is most important. There is a good deal on the Sony 350 at the moment, and since you are reading novels, the 5" screen should not be a problem. I have a 300 (older model, not touchscreen) and I get 3-4 weeks on the battery, and have no problem loading Kobo books (I have not even registered with Sony). The main problem with changing devices now is that BN books can only be read on a nook, or on a computer with the nook reading app, unless you are prepared to strip the DRM. |

I was actually quite delighted to discover there was an e-ink reader that had a touch screen. Thinking about the connectivity issue. Don't know if I am willing (or able) to spend the extra $50. Not to mention I'd have to drive down to Bellingham to get it. Not the end of the world I guess.
I have to go look at the pocket edition info again, is the only difference between it and the 650 the size? Oh wait, I think the other thing was that the pocket edition isn't expandable. Of course, if I spend less money I'll feel better about the whole thing. Thanks for the info about the kobo books, that is also vital too me I have discovered. I don't really have a probnlem with BN books, as I have only purchased one, and that was because I couldn't find it anywhere else. Kobo is much cheaper with their codes and such. |

Kindle 3 is not touchscreen but provides an awesome reading experience with up to 1 month of battery life. It has the newest pearl screen which is the best and most recent eink screen shared with Sony. Based on your post and if you read romances, I don't think you need anything that provides color. |

Your B&N books are automatically downloaded to you Nook Color using the Wifi connection. If you want to sideload B&N books to your Nook you can just drag and drop them. You do not need ADE for B&N books, but only for ePub books from other bookstores that that are protected with Adobe DRM or public library books. At the moment ADE does not support B&N's DRM. Adobe had promised a new version supporting the B&N DRM for 2010, but this has not been released yet. |

Ah, that's good to know about the cable. Would prefer it was mini usb though, that's what we are set up for.
I don't buy BN books. I get the free ones only. I'm very interested in the Sony 650 now, but they are sold out everywhere. Going to stop at sony and take a look at the floor models anyways. |

If you like your Kobo, then keep it. Just don't purchase any books from Barnes & Noble or Amazon. You will be able buy books from all other major bookstores.
I have have a Sony 600 Touch. I found out that you can't transfer B&N drm books to Sony or any other reader that isn't a Nook. Fortunately I tried this with a free B&N drm book so I didn't lose any money. Needless to say, I plan never to purchase any B&N books or any of their readers either. |
