jetBook and jetBook-Lite can handle both DRM's while the Aluratek Libre Pro can handle only the ADE DRM at this time.

I live in Canada and even though my jetBook can handle the B&N DRM, B&N does not sell here.

On another note, I remove DRM from my purchases. As these books are digital I can horde them and may be re-read them in the future but there is no guaranty that the DRM will work in the future. It has happened in the past that people have lost access due to technical improvements.

The Jetbook Lite supports the additional format of .pdb, which is the best
selling format at a number of the more established ebook retailers, who got
started meeting the PDA market. Also, the corresponding DRM, "Secure eReader"
for that format. As far as I know the JBL is the only ereader that
supports all three of these DRM scams.

Give "Inkmesh", an ebook search engine, a try and notice the formats and
DRM in use and the pricing associated with them.

If you're still looking for an Aluratek Libre, crazydave, you might try J&R electronics. They have it on sale for $99.99, but that's including a $20 instant rebate that's good only for today. There's a $10 mail-in rebate on it, too.

Sorry for the short notice, but I only just saw it.

Not a problem. I haven't had much time to look. Newegg also had a JBL on sale for a much cheaper price than I've seen in a while, but of course I failed to act in time and the price is back up again.

Cheers,

One thing I found about the Libre is this....if you use Overdrive from your public library, the Aluratek is incompatible. Now, I don't know if it is every library that uses Overdrive or just my local library that uses Overdrive. However, I was able to find a solution to this obstacle. So, if you are a heavy library user, I wouldn't suggest an Aluratek unless you can overcome the obstacle, which is the DRM.

The Libre should support Overdrive epubs. What firmware version are you using? Are you loading the books via Adobe Digital Editions?

I'm reading Overdrive books on my Libre with firmware version 0.15k patch v15. I believe there's a newer firmware version out, too, so Overdrive support isn't something new.

Since the Libre doesn't have a clock, books remain on the reader, but will be locked the next time you download a book with Overdrive if they're overdue.

The latest firmware version is .19d, but .18g is the best so far (unless you read German...)

I have not found this to be the case. I have an overdue book on the reader and I can still open and read it.

I think what csandste means is that although you can read your overdue books on your reader right now, if you should attempt to download any newer books from your library through ADE into your reader, then ADE will update the time-stamp on your reader and cancel out the overdue books you have right now. So do not connect your Libre to the PC until you have finished reading your books.

There was another thread earlier that described some way of moving the ADE folder from the device memory to the SD card to isolate it from the PC ADE program and avoid invalidating the overdue books. I have tried several permutations of this myself but can never get this to work.

But I won't say anymore about it or the moderator here will close this thread!

That is the latest and should work just fine with (most? Does Overdrive have any mobi books?) Overdrive books.

So, are you having troubles reading Overdrive books on it or not?

not any more.

I have downloaded more books to my reader while I was reading an expired book without affecting the expired book.

I intend to delete my expired books but just haven't gotten around to it. The biggest reason I have expired books on my reader is because many books I want to check out of the library I usually have to wait for because of popularity and sometimes 2 or 3 will become available at once. Our library has a 7 day expiration. And since I cannot read 3 books in 7 days, they remain on my reader.
