Rar. Stoopid computer. It shouldn't be the 64 bit thing (but could be), especially if it's not showing up even in System Profiler, the only other possibility I can think of is something wrong with your USB port. Sorry I can't be more help.

Ah well, at least you have your ASUS. (I'm on my ASUS netbook now until I get a replacement for the Mac powercord the cat just chewed through. )

Flygrl, I am glad that you are getting help from everyone. There seems to be a problem with the 950 reader just not working with some computers. Nobody has figured out a solution yet. It doesn't seem to be OS specific either. Some people can't get it to work with their Macs, and some people can't get it to work on their PC's with Windows 7. I know that people with the PC issue have had the same computer recognize other Sony ereaders such as the 350 or 650. That's why I say it is just a 950 issue. These people have had to use another computer as a solution too. I would be very frustrated if that happened to me!

The mileage of others definitely varies on this topic.

With a Mac, Calibre may be best.
I prefer the Sony Reader Library as well. Having used the Sony software and calibre on both Mac and PC, my opinion is there is not a difference between the operating systems. The programs work the same.

Just saw the rest of your post so I had to respond off topic for a moment. My cat has a liking for powercords too. I don't get it... She's hasn't chewed through my Mac powercord yet (yikes!), but she has chewed through headphone wires, my external hard-drive powercord, and a wired mouse cord.

This is the first time he has actually gone through a cord, usually he just bats at them and causes other sorts of trouble. Luckily (for him, not so much for me) this was a replacement that I hadn't even plugged in yet for the previous one that died.
