Made it over to the Best Buy over the noon hour and they did actually have the nook color powered up. The Nook eink, Kindle, and Sony display models would not power up. Once I set the NC to larger font size and double space it did hold that selection no matter what book I went to. Of course the problem still is I didn't see anyway of changing the font size when viewing the library, from which to make a selection.
Thanks for all the replies. I'll take a short drive over to Borders and give the Kobo a look this weekend. |

As an older person with vision problems who has both the Nook Classic and the Kindle 3, I found the Nook's little digital keyboard to be very difficult to operate. I much prefer the Kindle's keyboard. Being able to feel the little buttons makes it much easier to operate.
As for changing font sizes, the K3 has a button on the little keyboard for that. I know the Nook has the little menu at the bottom, but I found the electronic menus tough to negotiate, so I rarely changed my font size. But with the K3, the little button made it so easy, that I change things up when I start a book until I'm happy with both the font size and style. Just show your dad the key and he'll be able to do it himself. I definitely prefer eInk to color since my only interest is reading books that are in black and white and LCD quickly gives me headaches. I also love the long battery life of the Kindle. Being older, I found it a PITA to always be charging the Nook. |

I sold mine long ago, but I believe the Cybook G3 has a global font setting. The ability to choose from a LOT of font sizes and to easily change user fonts was the one thing I liked about the Cybook G3.
I think the firmware on the newer Cybook is similar, but perhaps someone who owns one can answer that for sure. |

By the way, it is a feature not mentioned much and I don't really know much about it but the Kindle does have audible navigation that can be turned on. I believe it reads the title/author and menu page type stuff.

I have not seen this mentioned but the Sony 950 and Kindle DXG are larger screens. My Mom loves her DXG for the clarity and the screen size. She can fit a lot more text n the 9.7 inch screen then the 6 inch screen.

My Aluratek Libra Pro can do that but may not be the very best answer it can set font sizes but they must be individually set for each individual novel. I'm honest about the short comings of my reader.

Sonys come with a stylus included - he need never use his fingers at all. As for changing font, one hits the "size" button on the device (actual button, not on a screen), and then taps the desired font size, which sets it for the duration of the book (unless he changes his mind).

I'm curious - does using the black background on the Kindle App make a difference on the ipad?
