Ms Doreen, I did not mean to include anything by and for women under the label worthless. I also did not mean to trash all romance novels, just the syrupy and crappy ones.

A justified condemnation could be made for the type of novel I was reading when I noticed flies attracted to my screen...I was reading one of Jefferson Bass's "Body Farm" mysteries.

The IR touch screen does have its quirks.
I had a piece of thread land on mie. I went to touch it to get it off, but I didn't get it off, but I started the reader changing pages, and it seemed to think the thread was my continued command to do so. It flips VERY fast. ![]() |

Books? They're a publisher; of course they produce books. Like I said bodice-ripper is an old stereotype that gets brought up whenever the romance genre comes up in conversation and it's usually by someone who's never actually read one.

Interesting topic. I pointed out in another thread that sony should add a THIRD option to the current Touch Screen Page Turn setup menu.
Currently you can pick options to set the reader for "Left to Right" -or- "Right to Left". My proposal would be to add a third options -> "Disable Touch Screen Page Turns" When the touch screen is disabled for page turns, you could still use the page turn buttons, just like a Kindle or Kobo reader. This option would NOT effect your use of the Touch Screen for other functions, only for page turns, highlighting, and bookmarks. So the touch screen would automatically be re-activated when you access the HOME screen, or any pop-up menus after hitting the Options, or the Font and Zoom keys. To make it as quick and easy as possible there could be several ways to quickly Enable/Disable the use of the Touch Screen for Page Turns - 1. Change the setting manually using the 'Settings' screen as already described. 2. Use a menu selection that would be added to the context sensitive menu that pops up when you use the 'Option' key in reading mode. 3. Use a quick hot-key combination triggered by holding BOTH the < and > keys at the same time for 3 seconds. This would trigger a pop-up telling you that the mode has toggled from "Touch Screen Page Turns Enabled" to "Touch Screen Page Turns Disabled". Hit BOTH the < and > keys again for three seconds and it toggles back with the opposite message. Being able to switch from the default Sony style Touch Screen Page Turns, to a Button-Only Page Turn mode like the Kindle would completely eliminate any stray page turn problems related to the touch screen. I could also save battery life (assuming the touch screen can actually be powered down when not being used). Last edited by delphin; 02-14-2011 at 05:36 AM. |

Well it happened to me today while reading outside. A little fly landed on the 350 screen and actually brought up the dictionary for a word. It was amusing this time, I wonder if it will ever reach the annoying stage during the warmer months though.

Would a screen protector be of any help?
I haven't installed one because I thought it might the interfere with the touchscreen's response, but perhaps that's a good idea if fruit flies find you intriguing. |

Try to wash from time to time, even if it is only your hands, it might make a difference

![]() ![]() You all have such closed minds - don't you realise this is evolution in progress ? ![]() We are vastly outnumbered by the insect kingdom, and many have always suspected a day of reckoning was inevitable. ![]() All it needed was the means for a species to develop the acquisition of technical knowledge, and our day in the sun would be over. Be afraid, be very afraid......................... The fight back must start here ! Shut that reader, spray that screen, don't fear breakage - YOU MUST BE MEAN ! ![]() |

A screen protector wouldn't help because the reader doesn't use the typical touch screen like cell phones, where you would have to press slightly harder if you used a screen protector. The Sony has an infrared sensor around the frame that detects any movement... even a feather could trigger advancing the page or the dictionary.
And I was outside in a huge garden area with lots of bees already milling about, I swear it wasn't me, it was the area! ![]() |

All pop-lit can only be enjoyed by those of us with limited mental prowess.
And yes, if flies find your screen fascinating, it might be time for some screen cleaner and a microfiber cloth. Last edited by deadgloves; 05-19-2011 at 03:45 AM. |
