Moon+ (link) requires that you import the books into their library to get the icons navigation. But what I like about Moon+ is that you can load a book from three places like if it's one library. The net, local file system, and your local library. The net library is awesome since it supports tag search and automatically downloads the books to the Moon reader. Moon also has TTS, but this does not work on my nook only my phone and Tab. I have a calibre server setup at home and I have Moon pointing to it as a "Net library" this way I can use my server at home to do all my searches and can keep my local libraries small. Quote:
![]() I've gotten use to night setting gray fonts black background. On my phone Samsung Vibrant the black gives off no light. It is awesome for reading at night, I never have to tweak the brightness because of it and the fonts are crisp at night. This is not the same effect on the nook. Because it is an LCD and not a AMOLED screen the black still gives of light, enough to keep my wife awake. So I end up reading on my 4" phone at night. Really can you site a reference. I've visited their home page and there is no mention of it http://www.corninggorillaglass.com/featured-products Also I managed to scratch my nook in less than one week of owning it, and I didn't even give it the abuse I give my phone(my phone has been dropped and drop kicked several times--not on purpose mind you). Aldiko does not read B&N DRM. It's just like how Kindle books can only be read on a Kindle or Kindle app. B&N's stuff can only be read on a NOOK or NOOK app.

People who read poetry and technical books need landscape mode. Such feature is missing right now on Nook Color. Even Kindle 3 has landscape mode and it's not a tablet. For that price, it's unacceptable, giving the case the hardware has an accelerometer. OP wants to know what the device offers now, not speculations. |

On Galaxy Tab: yes, PDFs and browser, both!
Honestly? besides the price, the Galaxy Tab is much, much more! and out of the box. I had a Nook Color ... I now have a Galaxy Tab, I've used both products and have zero interested in selling one or the other. You pay more for a Galaxy but you get a full power tablet with nothing to tweak, root or fix. Think about this: instead of buying a product that *you think* or *you believe* will receive a firmware upgrade or Os upgrade and fix major software problems or features, check what the product has now and today. Anything else is pure and mere speculation. |

I like the Tab, I really do, I love it's form factor, same as the nook color, love it's response etc. but with Honeycomb right around the corner the next Generation of galaxy tabs will run a software optimized for the tablet, There will be a wi fi only model. If a tablet is what someone wants, which I think the OP has expressed interest in more of an ereader, but if a tablet is a want right now, I would say wait. The next Generation of Galaxy S Tab's will be sooner rather than later and nothing like having a $600 buyer's remorse staring at you in the face. |

Do you know the Os difference between Honeycom and Froyo? How many popular apps are right now running on Froyo vs Honeycom? I do have several apps on Froyo that has been already optimized for Galaxy's screen. I installed Honeycom on my cellphone. Nice, beautiful, until I discovered that some apps were broken or totally out of Android Market. Have you used Honeycom on your device??? If you have, does not look like you know what are you talking about, sorry. Last edited by jocampo; 01-18-2011 at 03:32 PM. |

well for one Joe Honeycomb is not optimized for cell phones, Gingerbread is next software version. Smartphones are still running on the 2.xx so Gingerbread is 2.3 Honeycomb tablets will using the 3.0. So you are trying to install apps optimized for a 2.xxx version on software running 3.0 No wonder they weren't stable.. Honeycomb will be 3.0 and as of right now only optimized for Tablets. How many apps are going to be ready upon launch? I don't know but that will be the direction Android Tablets will be going to be using come the next upcoming quarter. Android even said for manufactures to wait for Honeycomb, but Samsung was too knee deep into the Galaxy S. and forged ahead. Many of those apps are either stretched to fit the screen or you have black bars. There aren't many running an OAR fitted for tablets. Yeah $250 more, why do you think people on the Android forums and are going bonkers over the Nook color. Its $250, a simple root process and done. Full fledge tablet with no contract. For $250 less. With yours is stil a pay as go. You still have to buy data to use data. Unless you can just not buy any data plans and simple use the Wi Fi only. Can you do that? Or is Wifi disabled? I am so confused! LOL.
I am mostly looking for a reader so I might just get the NC. I do really like the Galaxy Tab, but it is a lot more $ (especially up here in Canada, it would be $745 with taxes and environmental fee). I don't really need a tablet, but I thought if I used it for business I could justify buying one. |

comparing it to the Galaxy tab is really apples and oranges. the nook color is optimized as and for reading, not to be an iPad or Galaxy Tab. It's ereading features are really incredible, I think you'll enjoy it they way BN's meant for it to be enjoyed. Good luck and feel free to stop by the Nook sub forum, people they are plenty helpfull with any questions. ![]() |

Yes, I personally had the option to say no and walk out of the door with my Galaxy Tab and no contract. Everything working, including Wifi and 3G capabilities, but I was looking for that 3G access. Of course you must pay to get 3G access. You want it free, please tell me how? |

I mean heck look at what the Vizio one is offering, HDMI out, record and playing HD Video . There is too much buzz right now to jump on a first generation tablet with these Kooky data plans. but if someone is looking for an ereader that has more capabilities and features than what an eink display can offer, the Nook Color is the best in Show in that category. If all things being equal, meaning it doesn't matter to you reading on either eink or LCD, the Nook color is the best overall choice, IMHO out there. as to your other question I wasn't referring to 3G but actually my question is if you buy an T Mobile PrePaid contract, can you bypass the pre paid data plan and simply use it as a wi fi only? I think the feature of having two cameras is not really a sell. Many people have smartphones with descent cameras that double has video recorders, and some have standalone camera / video recorder devices as well. So now you are walking around with two devices each with cameras, for a total of 3 cameras. If you have an HTC Evo then you have a total of 4 cameras.
They should come out with a WiFi only model with no cameras. That'll move. |

I think that you missed the point. The front facing is for video conference (Qik, Skype, etc), useful for executives or "on the go" chat. I've just used it recently. The rear one acts like a regular camera. That also explains the difference between megapixels and no flash (for the front one) For that price, this is more than a toy or a simple camera, has much more potential.
