Yeah I might do that. I came here for advice, didn't I ? Might as well follow the advice that was gracefully given to me.

I wish I knew if it's possible to do some kind of hard factory-restore reset on dr800 type devices, or maybe boot from an OS on an external card, like on the iliad. I guess IREX have taken their secret with them to the grave. Oh well...

I used my DR800SG for only two weeks, but it was long enough for me to know that this is the reading device I want. Wish me luck in getting my hands on another one (at a reasonable price that is). Until then, it's back to reading my PDFs on the computer screen...

Thanks to those who took the time to try to help.

Just out of curiosity, did you try to reboot the device without the battery with only an usb cable ? So take out the battery, leave the device for some time( an hour or so) and connect the usb( i did it via my computer). You get some weird blue and red indicator lights, but my dr800 started into the normal man on the circle screen and next into the home-screen, with or without the sd-card inserted.

Yes, I have tried that. In fact, I've tried almost every combination of reset/reboot battery on/off/full/drained usb cable connected/disconnected to computer/to charger SD card in/out you can think of, without success. The result is always the same. Right after connect (battery or cable): solid orange indicator light. It will remain that way indefinately, for days, well after the battery should be fully charged. A flick of the power switch, or a long reset flick: light turns solid green, and remains that way indefinately. In all cases, absolutely no activity whatsoever of the display, and all switches (menu button, flip bar, etc) are unresponsive.

too bad! I can assure you, when fully working, this device is really great, besides, there seem to be so few members left in the community that potentially loosing one of them is very sad ... still hope you will be able to salvage yours!

hmm, thought you would have. Sorry, than i don't have any other ideas. I sort of get the same behavior when i boot the device holding the menu button constantly... total unresponsiveness. Hope you'll figure out a way to revive your device. Or let it be for some weeks and hope it magically revives.

I know, mine was perfectly operational for two weeks. I like its form factor and interface. And the 8 inch screen seems to fall right on that sweet spot that makes it just right, not too small, not too big.

Believe me, I'll do the best I can NOT to be lost for the community. But we have to face reality: Irex is gone. The readers that are in circulation right now are it, and that's that.

Don't be sorry; in fact this information might prove quite helpfull, it gives me another route to explore: What if one of the buttons of my device is somehow "stuck" ? That could be what's causing this behavior.
All the buttons "feel" responsive to me, but one might be damaged somehow. At least that's something new I can test now. Thanks !
